About Our Chapter

This shelter chapter operates out of the Ridgefield Operation for Animal Rescue (ROAR) and serves Veterans in the following communities: Danbury, Newton and Ridgefield in Connecticut and Armonk, Brewster and Mt. Kisco in New York.

Chapter Director Didi Tulloch

An animal lover her entire life, Didi found a home at ROAR (Ridgefield Operation for Animal Rescue) in 2009. Her experience there, from walking and working with the dogs to greeting and assisting potential adoptive families, to bringing the dogs to their “forever” homes and helping with fundraising, has been incredibly meaningful and rewarding.

In 2010, Didi expanded her involvement with ROAR. She and her dog, Bode, had seen the “power of the pet” firsthand when they visited hospice patients and assisted living residents, as well as school children learning to read. Inspired by these visits, Didi decided to serve as the Volunteer Coordinator for ROAR’s Pet Therapy Program. This position involves overseeing 30 pet therapy teams, working with the trainer to screen new team prospects and helping to certify new teams.

Starting Pets for Vets ROAR Ridgefield is a fantastic opportunity for Didi to continue working with shelter animals while furthering her experience with pet therapy to aid our returning Veterans. Didi knows just how amazing pets are and the endless joy and comfort they bring to their people and appreciates their innate ability to sense when we need them most. Knowing that pets have the unique ability to calm and reassure us with their presence and contact, Didi wants to bring a pet into as many Veterans’ homes as possible.

The ROAR shelter is thrilled and honored to work in conjunction with Pets for Vets as a shelter chapter. Together, we will be able to not only rescue many loveable dogs and cats but also match them with Veterans who will benefit immensely from their companionship.
