Play for Purpose
Play for Purpose is a continuous hockey game at Winter Garden Ice Arena in Ridgefield, CT, that raises money and awareness for multiple charities. This 72-hour non-stop game included 180 hockey players—men and women from 16 to 75 years old—who were divided into eight teams and played three-hour long games around the clock.
Play for Purpose was a tremendous success and not only raised awareness of Pets for Vets ROAR Ridgefield but also raised $8,836.18 to help our Veterans and shelter animals!
We are so fortunate to receive tremendous support from our community. Thank you to all of the hockey players and participants who truly made a difference for our Veterans and shelter animals.

Middlesex County Blue Star Mothers
The Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. is a Veteran Service Organization chartered by the U.S. Congress and made up of mothers who currently have or have had children serving our country in the military. The Middlesex County Blue Star Mothers-CT Chapter 3 formed in Connecticut to honor and serve our troops, our Veterans and mothers and families of our military service men and women and to promote patriotism here at home.
We are grateful for the generous donation of $500 from the Middlesex County Blue Star Mothers CT-3 that will help us support Veterans in our community.
Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association
On October 2, 2016, Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association 31-1 and 31-1A traveled to Ridgefield, CT to present Pets for Vets ROAR Ridgefield with a donation of $2,000. Allyson Dotson (Shelter Director of ROAR) and Didi Tulloch (Pets for Vets ROAR Ridgefield Chapter Director) gave the Combat Veterans and auxiliary members a tour of ROAR’s facility and introduced them to our dogs and cats who are available for adoption.
Veteran Russ Albrycht and his companion dog, Tink (one of our first Veteran-pet matches through Pets for Vets ROAR Ridgefield), were present and showed their wonderful connection. Russ also shared his positive companion dog experiences with Tink.
We are so appreciative of Auxiliary State Representative Marilyn “Kodak” Mull for choosing our organization to receive this incredibly generous donation. We were humbled and so proud to show off our shelter to this amazing group of people who have given so much and continue to give so much to our Veterans.

Liz Hardersen & AT&T
Thank you to Liz Hardersen for nominating Pets for Vets ROAR Ridgefield for AT&T’s ACE (Award for Community Excellence), an award given annually to a charity nominated by an AT&T ACE community forum leader. After all the forum leaders had voted on the nominated charities, our organization was selected to be one of AT&T’s beneficiaries this year!
Liz said, "This was my first opportunity to nominate a charity for a donation. I feel strongly about animal rescue and supporting current and former service people. Pets for Vets ROAR Ridgefield is the perfect combination as it serves the needs of Veterans and gives a dog a great purpose. I am thrilled such a worthy charity was chosen!”
Thank you, Liz and AT&T!

Eilhys England (pictured) is the Founder and CEO of Stand for the Troops, an organization she and her husband, the late Colonel David H. Hackworth, established. The late Colonel, “America’s most decorated soldier since the Civil War,” dedicated his life to the safety of his troops and the organization continues his work by ensuring that America’s frontline get the best personal combat gear as well as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) treatment when they return home.
Pets for Vets ROAR Ridgefield was honored to accept $2,630 from Stand for the Troops at the Elks Lodge in Stamford on June 25, 2016, and thrilled to be able to work together to help our returning Veterans by matching them with a companion animal.
The American Wedding Guide
Not only was Pets for Vets ROAR Ridgefield the featured charity in the July 2015 issue of The American Wedding Guide, but the publication also presented us with a generous donation! Linda Piddington, The American Wedding Guide’s Publisher/Owner, presented Didi Tulloch, Pets for Vets ROAR Ridgefield Chapter Director with a check outside ROAR (Ridgefield Operation for Animal Rescue).
