Chapter Director Marianne Quinn
Marianne has loved helping others and animals all her life. She has been involved in the Pets for Vets Portland Maine chapter since 2014, coming aboard first as a volunteer. Marianne is passionate about Pets for Vets and in 2015 she joined the ranks of approved trainers for the chapter. This allowed her to get to know the veterans well and adopt and train the animal companion they were seeking. In addition, Marianne joined the board of directors and became the assistant chapter director prior to taking on the role of chapter director. Marianne has observed firsthand how the unconditional love of a dog can help a Veteran through difficult times while reintegrating into civilian life.
Professionally, Marianne is a Registered Nurse (RN) in the greater Portland Maine area. At one point in her career she worked at the Maine Veteran’s Home first in Augusta and then in Scarborough. Currently her focus is helping patients manage their complex medical and social conditions in order to take control of their health and overcome barriers preventing them from doing so.
In her spare time Marianne volunteers with a regional dog rescue group, a local pet food pantry, teaches water aerobics and has recently become a consultant/health coach . She spends quality time with her cat, Polly and dog, Heidi, (both rescues) making sure their lives are filled with fun and enrichment.
"He’s more than just a friend. He’s my battle buddy. He’s my left hand. We’re connected by a leash, but it’s really our umbilical cord. He’s sometimes more tuned into me than I’m tuned into me. He knows more about me than I do sometimes. He lets me know what’s going on."

"You would think that a dog is just a dog. That may be true for some, but not me.
I used to sit at home, alone, and just let life pass me by, but now I have a reason to get up. Even if it’s feeding Samson, or taking him for walks, he has motivated me to live again."
– Luke
